Seasons
It's a full circle adventure for Charlie to close the season as he travels back to his childhood summer home of Berkshire County in Massachusetts, where he's welcomed by old and new faces alike. Charlie meets local beekeeper Curtis Mraz, who shows Charlie the subtle differences of beekeeping up north in a colder climate.
Boys love their toys and beekeeping is no exception. It's time for Charlie to protect his bees from varroa mites - it's not something he enjoys doing, but it's a necessary yet cumbersome task in order to maintain the health of his hives. Thankfully, Charlie is introduced to a new vaporiser that could greatly expedite the process. Later on, Charlie receives a new toy from Italy, the B-box - a specially designed hive box for urban beekeepers.
Charlie travels to Massachusetts for a one-of-a-kind, behind-the-scenes tour at Maxant Industries. Maxant is one of the oldest manufacturers of honey processing equipment and the source of Charlie's heavy-duty gear for harvesting honey. Walking in, Charlie turns into a wide-eyed kid in a candy shop, as he's greeted by the Maxant CEO who has a treasure of new harvesting gear for Charlie's burgeoning bee business.
Charlie is a pro when it comes to bee removal. But the one technique he can never seem to nail down is the "forced abscond". To level up his forced abscond game, Charlie heads to Brenham, Texas to meet with the "Texas Friendly Beekeeper" and forced abscond master. Charlie then meets with Korhan Kaftanoglu from Apimaye - a company that specialises in a new type of insulated bee hive.
We're heating up it in this episode! Charlie and friends look to brave the +100F Texas heat to remove beehives from an old car and an RV. They face several challenges, including cutting through bamboo and avoiding the risk of impaling themselves on punji sticks. Even the camera crew begin to feel the heat.
Going behind the scenes with migratory beekeeping operations, Charlie gets a once-in-a-lifetime look at the largest insect migration in the world. He then heads to Prime Bees in College Station.
It's time to get zen in this episode. Charlie tries out a more natural approach to beekeeping by building his first top-bar hive with the help of the fun folks from Bee Mindful. Charlie then heads to the University of Texas at San Antonio to meet with a scientist who is studying the medicinal properties of honey.
