Kev starts a swim team with new kid Brian; Nancy hosts a dinner for Coleman to discuss the growing crime problems; surprising Nancy, Henry also arrives for dinner to win her back; more folks crash the dinner, leaving Nancy frantic as chaos ensues.
Nancy offers to watch Dirty Dante, and finds she enjoys mothering the grateful kid; Kev takes advantage of Nancy being distracted and gets into trouble staying out late; Richard suspects Miss Green is losing interest in him since he's gone straight.
Nancy freaks on her birthday when she learns she's not turning 39, but 40; her friend Loretta arrives to take her out for one last crazy night; Kev and Henry trail them to keep Nancy away from other men; Richard helps Robert make a prison cake.
Nancy and Henry head to Baltimore to reclaim their Spades glory from years past, and find their relationship spark reignited; nervous Kev gets the attention of a girl, and Richard's plans to spend a quiet weekend with Miss Green are crashed.
Kev's class completes a read-a-thon challenge, but with a logbook tracking their progress stolen and their pizza party at risk, the class holds a mock trial to catch the thief; Nancy and Marisol devise a plan to save their endangered hospital.
Inspired by Rev. Mooney's sermon, Kev and Nancy try to prove each other wrong as they help their racist elderly neighbor; Richard thinks Miss Green is avoiding him.
Uncle Richard is put in charge of the boys while Nancy takes a risk visiting a new hair salon; when Kev and Robert's troublemaking plans go awry, Richard and Henry clean up the mess.
When the community pool closes, smooth-talking city council candidate Coleman Bridges proves unhelpful, so Kev schemes for Henry to run against Coleman.
Kev's plan to go to his crush Rhe Rhe's party is thwarted when he gets stuck babysitting Uncle Richard's two rowdy kids; Nancy goes to a spoken word poetry night with Marisol.

Description
Set in 1993 North Philadelphia, follow 12-year-old Kevin Hart, whose wild imagination and unshakable optimism constantly collide with his neighborhood's harsh realities. At the same time, his no-nonsense mother Nancy juggles night shifts as an E.R. nurse while waging a one-woman war to keep Kev on track – no easy feat with his mischievous older brother Robert blazing all the wrong trails, his trainwreck father Henry's outrageous attempts to win Nancy back, and his ex-con uncle Richard Jr.'s questionable life advice.
